Self promotion
I decided to base my self promo project on my personality. I am a very bubbly happy person, so i wanted to have my work resemble that. I am a big dreamer and always have so many plans and ideas so i thought i would create a childlike dream world. As dreams are limitless and being a graphic design ideas are limitless.

animation movie
For this project we had to make a 20 second movie based on an environmental problem. I chose to do deforestation at my cause. I used paper to symbolize the tree and how people don't even second think when throwing paper away, and not realizing that they wasting part of a tree.
South african cookbook
We had to design a cookbook that was south african inspired. when I think of south africa I think of the bush and how tourists come to south africa to experience the wild. so I decided to base my book on the different foods you would eat if you were in a game park.

Editorial magazine layout
For this project we were given four stories to chose from, we then had to interpret the one story that we chose and illustrate it. My idea for this brief was; even though these hipsters think that they cool in their own legue and trying to be so different from every one else they are still influenced by media and the latest trends. so for my images i took a photo of lee "him being my model" being hang by puppet strings and the hand which is the media is contolling the puppet and i drew these out, i originally was going to draw them all neat. But the more i thought about i decided to go with a more rougher look , because when i think of hipsters i don’t see them as neat people, but more untidy.
When i started laying this out in indesign i really battled with trying to get the text in the correct place in relation to my illustrations since they were placed in an awkward places. And since there was an extra page to design for it made it even harder because i dint have alot of illustrations to work with and text. But lucky having chosen one small seed it was easier because there placing of work is very spacious. I placed the heading and sub heading with the main image because there was less space on this page for the main text, the non the other two pages there was plenty of space as the images on these pages weresmall.
for my 2 layout options i kept the images in the same place since i had to accommodate the strings of the puppets.
Packaging- Bread Ahead
When we were first given this brief I thought I was going to go the fast food packaging route. so I came up with a couple of deigns, as this was quiet hard and I wasn't coming up with any thing that was exciting i changed to the donut packaging part, after a lot of thinking I finally decided what i wanted to do.
i selected bread ahead because it is a "newish" franchise that has been open and i thought it would be fun to work with,.most of their products just came in a plain box, so i thought it would be great to come up with a new design yet still easy and convient to work with. also many people had decide to design for woolworths and i thought it would be way more fun to do something a little more differen. seeing as though all the other options we couldve chosen they seemed like they need which is more sofficated and i prefer to do thing a bit more fun when given the option.
For my design i wanted to keep it simple and convient. so i kept the general rectangular box shape, but boxes are always awkward to carry especially when you have a couple of things to carry, and since bread a head is a take away bakery and i wanted to get the take away feel for it, so instead of a hard handle like what a lunch box would have, i ‘used’ a material that can fold down so u can carry it with out difficultly like you would at macdonalds. then inside the bag there is a cardboard box to stabilise thet packet and so the donuts don’t just fall all over the place.
i tried to get all the senses involved. so instead of the an inclosed container you will still be able to smell the fresh donuts because they not totally closed up. around the box i have left spaces open so you are able to see the donuts. i found that being able to hear donuts almost impossible to proved a design for. i also kept the donuts in an inclosed package at the bottom because if you were able to touch them while carting them around i would find that very unhygenic. even though donuts are round i chose to put them in a rectangular box because a box is much easier to to construct and put together in a limited amount of time.
the material i have used especially the more light weight paper is eco friendly, the cardboard inside the ’packet’75% recyclable, aswell at the plastic that is used. you will be able to construct the package as it is preconstructed , all you have to do is put the package together, roll done the paper and place the 5 donuts in.
Packaging- vitamins Athro-Vita
For this part of the project I took inspiration from a canderal dispencer and an astham pump. so by pushing up on the button at the bottom of the dispencer , the button is pressed up it releases a tablet. this contraption doesnt require alot of pressure making iit easy to use especially if you have arthritis. its also quite large which doesnt make it difficult to hold. I've made it so you are able to refill it , which is ecnomically cheaper, as you dont need to buy the whole dispense again you can just buy the tablets seperately.
i think this is a better dispenser to use because as for other packaging of tablets its hard to push tablets out if they in a sachet especially if you have arthritis, and if tablets come in a packet its even harder to get you fingers to get in between the folds to separate the opening. I choose to use the name athro-vita as the tablets are for people that suffer with arthritis and who also want vitamin supplements, which these tablets contain. the name is both easy to pronounce and easy to remember. you also know what the tablets are for without having to read labels

Re-branding of Durban paddle ski club
For this project we were told to do a branding campaign for either PWC and the following sport clubs: point yacht club, durban ski boat club and durban undersea club, these clubs were for the building of the small harbour. There was also the second option of the durban paddle ski club and save vetch’s beach, which were against the building of the harbour.
I choose to do the second option and save vetch’s beach, we had to create a new logo, type design, corporate identity, brochure, signage and merchandise. we needed to attract new members, and get people to help save the beach with the designs we had come up with.
My Motivation
I chose to do the second option to save vetch’s beach and the durban paddle ski club, I don’t believe that building a better water sports club is worth destorying the reef and beach. Yes it might bring more money in, create more job opportunities and make the area look alot better, but it won’t be for the public, since most of the people won’t even be able to use the facilities. the beach is meant to be for families, a place to take children and their dogs and since this is already one of the main beaches, it already is a attraction, we don’t need to better it.
The reef is a main place for scuba diving, you don’t just find that any where and we already destorying
our enviroment, why make it worse by now destorying the reef.
I think we only trying to better the area for this “fancy” image, rather than for job creation or to bring money in.
once destorying one beach whats to say it won’t stop there and make it more acceptable to now start building on other beaches.

photography
For this project we were to be inspired by any lyric and create a visually pleasing photographic image that is related to the lyrics. the photo had to be crafted , with a suitable
location, a model and correct clothing relative to our concept. our photos had to be edited and enhanced.I have chosen to do the song ‘Just the way you are’ by Bruno Mars, and the singular lyrics I have chosen
to base my photographic images on is “ your beautiful just the way you are “ ... in the music video he uses the stereotypical hot chick, someone of whom is young of age and ‘easy on the eyes’ . So for this song I want to take photos of people that would no longer be deemed by society and the media as beautiful such as Grannies and people of old age and how even in their old age beauty still exist. ‘ Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.‘

hang ten hoodie
when given the brief, we were told to get into pairs so Thobani Gambushe and I paired up as we knew we would work well together. we were both pretty excited about the project.
We were told to design a traveling hoodie that looked like it had been on a journey. so Thobani and I had discussed it and since we were both from different parts of kwa-zulu-natal, me being form howick which is a small farming community and thobani from amanzimtoti which is city by the beach, we wanted to use that as the direction we went in and show that comparison of the two, since we couldnt really go on a journey together we used images from where we were from because they both cover at least 50% of what south africa has to offer for travel.
Ijusi (typography)
For this project we were to design a type faces, inspired by africa. For my font i was inspired by nature and the african bush. the baobab was my main inspiration. I designed my type from bark, I broke pieces several pieces and placed them till they looked like a letter from the alphabet

One minute movie - chew.pop.create
For this project we had to make an anti-design movie in a group and then do an individual viral campaign and design packaging for the cd.
Anti- design to my understanding is the opposite of design, its not conforming to the usual commercial designs, it is out of the ordinary and somthing you wouldnt expect.
we applied this to our movie by saying we able to create something out of something we were not supposed to be doing. we wanted to say design and creation of art can come from anything and not just something you would usually expect.
then for my individual packaging, i didnt apply the anti-design at first. i just took an aspect of our movie which was the chappies bubblegum which is very child like and i went in this direction, but after talking to dennis i realised i had completely missed the plot, i had designed my cd cover to child like, which was for the totally wrong target market, and not having people guess what the movie was actually about..
so after working on the words, chew.pop.create i started to focus on the words pop, and when i think of that word - what comes to mind? and michael jackson did, him being the king of pop. i started designing my cd cover but i felt focusing just on him limited what i could do. i was going to work with “this is not pop” but i felt it was too close to what the other team had gone with. so after a while of thinking and talking to ernst i decided to use all three words, chew.pop.create and use them literally and question them, and make people think about: is chewing actually chewing, is pop just pop and is creating just with a pencil or pen, and from there i worked on my design, which were really simple.
